I cannot believe that only 5 days stand between now and when I will be stepping onto my plane to Copenhagen, Denmark. The sound of "5 days" is a bit terrifying when I compare it to the length of my to-do list, but it is exhilarating to know that this time next week, I will be writing a blog post from my host family's back porch, looking over at their goats, chickens and gardens with the Danish countryside greeting me each morning.
The travel books have been purchased, I'm signed up for classes, and the packing list has begun. This experience of a lifetime that I have been looking forward to for so long is finally just around the corner.
While abroad, I will be studying with the Danish Institute for Study Abroad (DIS). I am taking 4 classes: Strategic Communication as my core course, Sociology of the Family, Danish Design, and Danish Language & Culture. For my strat. comm. class, I will go on a 10 day study tour to London! I am thrilled to travel around Europe while I have the opportunity.
The reality and excitement of my study abroad experience set in when I received a letter from my host family this week. As I read their letter, I was filled with joy, comfort, and eager anticipation.
I am living with the wonderful Rosendal family. Per and Katja are my generous host parents, Silja and Nuka are my beautiful sisters, and Oskar is my brother who attends the University. The descriptions of each family member made me beam from ear to ear, and I am thrilled to be a Rosendal for the fall semester.
My letter included photos of the family and my future home. Take a look at a few that I pulled!

As I prepare for my departure for Copenhagen, I'm constantly reminding myself of my previous travel experience and the lessons I have learned regarding immersing myself into a new culture.
While in Copenhagen, I plan to be 100% present in Copenhagen. I plan to absorb my surroundings, learn from my family and classes, and take advantage of every opportunity I have that will enable me to dig deeper into Danish culture, from cooking meals with my host family to taking an exploration trip with DIS.
5 days. So long home sweet Nashville, and see you soon beautiful Copenhagen.
