Last Friday morning, my host family and I celebrated my host sister Silja's birthday! It was so fun to be a part of their tradition.
Katja and Per woke up early in the morning and woke Silja up by singing in Danish and running into her room waving Danish flags! I love how the country's pride is included in celebrating Danish birthdays.
We all gathered around the table together for a special breakfast. We had delicious yogurt parfaits with yogurt, raspberries, blueberries, honey and granola, and then we had bread, cheese, and Danish pastries. The table was decorated with Danish flags, and we had a great time celebrating Silja before we went off to school and work!

On Friday after class Kyle and I ventured to A.C. Perchs Tearoom. There's nothing better than white tea with a strawberry scone. I felt like a Danish princess as we sipped on tea in the beautiful tearoom that overlooked the streets of Copenhagen.
Over the weekend Per and Oskar finished building a beautiful stone oven on the back patio of the house, and we made pizzas in the new oven. It was so neat to see them build such an incredible piece over the time that I have been here. This home keeps getting better and better.
On Saturday I went and saw Nuka play a handball game! Handball is such a popular sport in Denmark. To me, it's a mix of basketball and soccer. It fast-paced, on a court like a basketball court where you have to dribble and pass the ball, and then the goals you shoot in and the layout of the players looks like soccer. I had so much with Katja getting to see Nuka play!
On Sunday afternoon Katja taught me how to make homemade cinnamon rolls, frequently called cinnamon snails here! She is an amazing baker. I unfortunately had only had the experience of making cinnamon rolls from a Pillsbury can where you just stick them on a pan and pop them in the over for 10 minutes…there's no going back to that now!
These cinnamon rolls were amazing. We started by making the dough and letting it rise. It was interesting to use a scale to measure the ingredients in grams! After the dough rises, you roll it out in a rectangle and spread the cinnamon/butter mixture on top. You then roll the dough, cut the long roll into pieces, and then press them into the pan for them to sit and rise again. Lastly, you put them in the over and top them with icing. They were absolutely delicious.

Can you tell I'm loving it here?
